The accessibility team within OIT is dedicated to ensuring that all content authors have the resources and support they need to create and share digital information that is accessible to everyone at Rice and beyond. We strive to facilitate more inclusive digital experiences through collaboration, education, and advocacy.
Digital Information Accessibility Coordinator
The Digital Accessibility Coordinator is a member of the Learning Environments team.
They support all members of the Rice community who create and share public and academic digital information.
Trisha Whiteman MLIS & CPACC (she/hers)
Trisha joined the Learning Environments team in October 2022 and is working remotely from New Hampshire. She comes to Rice from Southern New Hampshire University, where she was a librarian and faculty member for eight years. Prior to SNHU, Whiteman worked at Nova Southeastern University as a research and teaching librarian. She has been working with accessibility since 2016 and recently earned her IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competency. Trisha is an active researcher, presenter and accessibility/disability advocate.
Highlights of the coordinator's role includes: developing best practices for accessible public and learner facing content, assessing and evaluating technologies, delivering training and development opportunities and assisting Rice in fostering social initiatives for accessibility as part of DEI work across campus.
